Westpac Rescue Helicopter

fund raiser for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service
Drovers Run 2024
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service (WRHS) is a registered Charity. Our sole purpose is to provide the highest standard aeromedical response and search and rescue to the communities of Northern NSW.
This WRHS provides 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to anyone in need, and very importantly, anyone receiving help, not having to pay.
The WRHS operational area extends from the Hawkesbury River in the south, to the Queensland border in the north, and as far west as Brewarrina and Nyngan or even further if tasked. The WRHS operates from three bases across northern NSW, Newcastle, Tamworth and Lismore, using AW139 helicopters.
In March of 2015 a Doctor and Paramedic were included on the helicopter crew 24 hours per day, and the WRHS now responds to over 1,500 life-saving missions each year.
The AW139 Helicopter cost $1,000 per hour in fuel, $1,000 per hour to run the engine, $1,500 for the airframe and for $500 avionics, that’s a total of $4,000 per hour, not including crew.
The Drover’s Run 4WD Outback Adventure is a major fund-raising activity for the WRHS and is being held from the 5th to 22nd August, 2024. Scott and Warren are participating in the Drover Run, to assist with this fund raising.
We invite individuals, or your business to be a Supporting Donor of the 2024 Drover’s Run Outback Adventure, and in turn, we will not only promote your business to the broader community during the event but you will also be assisting to save lives through your tax-deductible donation.
We are looking forward to the 2024 Drover’s Run raising a substantial amount of money for the WRHS and we look forward to and, thank you for you supporting this event.

Distinguished and Famous people from Moreton Bay

🎵 Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb

The Gibb brothers spent formative years at Redcliffe, developing their music before the Bee Gees became internationally famous. Barry, Robin and Maurice’s later work travelled through pop, harmony singing and the disco era, but the local association belongs to their earlier family and performing life. Bee Gees Way, developed with Barry’s involvement, commemorates the connection through photographs, music and personal recollections. It gives Redcliffe a public place to revisit a musical beginning, with a coastal neighbourhood preceding the studios, tours and recordings that made the brothers familiar across the world.

🎨 Dale Marsh

Dale Marsh’s painting became part of the welcome to Bribie Island through the large mural near its entrance. Community attachment to the work prompted consultation and a restoration project announced in 2020. Council also recognised his wider regional contribution after an exhibition at the Bribie Island Seaside Museum. The association is a working artistic legacy seen in a familiar public setting. A picture encountered on an ordinary drive can become part of how people recognise home, giving an artist a lasting local presence beyond the gallery wall.

🔬 Joseph and Thomas Bancroft

Joseph Bancroft and his son Thomas undertook a varied program of research at Deception Bay. Joseph investigated native plants and methods of preserving food, while Thomas continued agricultural experiments including cotton and castor plants. Their work linked medical interests with the practical questions of food, cultivation and local conditions. A foreshore memorial and associated heritage places preserve that connection. The district was therefore more than a place where two doctors happened to stay: it supplied land and working settings for an extended scientific enterprise, with questions ranging well beyond the consulting room.

🐓 Fred “Chooky” Campbell

Fred Campbell grew up with the family’s Mahaca poultry farm and hatchery at Albany Creek and attended its state school. As a schoolboy he rode a horse to Zillmere station and took the train to Brisbane State High. Poultry farming later earned him the affectionate nickname Chooky. In government he promoted manufacturing, regional industrial estates and better apprenticeship conditions, arguing that Queensland needed more than a reliance on rural production. His farm background and later industrial interests were connected by a practical concern with how people made their living and acquired useful skills.
